About the Ensembles

Byrdsonge is an early music ensemble founded in 2023 by artists Nathan Jeffery and Jean-Paul Feo. Named in honour of English composer William Byrd, the ensemble comprises male voices, usually one to each part, and specialises in the performance of English Renaissance music, primarily that of Byrd and his contemporaries.

The Sheppard Camerata was formed in 2025 as an extension to Byrdsonge to include mixed voices. The ensemble comprises members of Byrdsonge, as well as members of other ensembles to create a slightly larger ensemble capable of performing repertoire otherwise off-limits to a male-voice ensemble. Named in honour of English composer John Sheppard, the ensemble specialises in the performance of pre-Reformation English Polyphony composed mainly in the 15th century.
